The UN Office in Geneva opened the exhibition “Creating a Better World” on October 24, 2023, on the occasion of United Nations Day.

 

 

 

The Permanent Mission of the Republic of Tajikistan to the United Nations Office and other international organizations in Geneva has showcased Chakan, national embroidery art inscribed on UNESCO Representative List of Intangible Cultural Heritage in 2018, at the exhibition.

 

 

 

The event was aimed to recognize and support the importance of handicraft around the globe promote culture as an instrument of dialogue among the nations.

 

 

 

The visitors were briefed about the country’s national traditions, in particular it has been mentioned that Chakan is a kind of folk handicraft that has a very ancient history and is closely related to the life, customs and spiritual world of the Tajik people.

The exhibition will continue until November 10.

On 28 September 2023, the Permanent Mission of the Republic of Tajikistan to the United Nations Office and other international organizations in Geneva solemnly celebrated the 32nd Anniversary of the country’s State Independence.

 

 

 

 

In his speech, the Permanent Representative of the Republic of Tajikistan to the United Nations Office and other international organizations in Geneva, Ambassador Mr. Sharaf Sheralizoda drew the attention of guests to the importance of independence and protection of its values, the achievements of the Tajikistan’s independence era, as well as to the prospects and comprehensive cooperation of Tajikistan with international organizations and Swiss Confederation.

Heads of international organizations and diplomatic missions in Geneva were presented at the event.

 

 

 

 

At the festive reception the folk crafts, achievements of Tajikistan during the period of independence, photographs, beautiful landscapes of the country, books of the Founder of Peace and National Unity – Leader of the Nation, President of the Republic of Tajikistan, H.E. Mr. Emomali Rahmon dedicated to the history and culture of Tajiks, as well as Tajik national arts, including national clothing and musical instruments have been presented.

On July 20, 2023, the ceremony of the presenting of credentials of the new Permanent Representative of Tajikistan to the United Nations Office at Geneva Mr. Sharaf Sheralizoda to the Director-General of the UN Office at Geneva Ms. Tatiana Valovaya was held.

 

 

 

 

 

The current situation and prospects of cooperation between the Republic of Tajikistan and United Nations Office at Geneva were discussed at the meeting.

 

 

 

 

During the meeting, the parties discussed the topical issues of cooperation between the Republic of Tajikistan and the United Nations, particularly in the field of water and climate change, Sustainable Development Goals, as well as issues of combating the modern challenges and threats, etc.

On 6 February 2023 a panel discussion “Water, Economics and Trade: Exploring commitments for the UN 2023 Water Conference” was held at the World Trade Organization (WTO) in Geneva.

Organized by the Permanent Missions of the Republic of Tajikistan and the Kingdom of the Netherlands, and facilitated by the WTO, the event offered an opportunity to draw greater attention to the trade, investment and economic aspects of water, as well as provided a platform to present ongoing work and interim conclusions of the Global Commission on the Economics of Water.

Permanent Representative of the Republic of Tajikistan to the United Nations Office and other international organizations in Geneva Mr. Jamshed Khamidov.

reiterated the urgency to scale up efforts in addressing the water challenges, emphasizing the significance of water for safety and economy. At the same time, the importance of implementation of the Water Action Decade and acceleration of global action on water issues has been stressed.
